ATA proved that the business is there, however, they also proved that even if you sell out every damn flight, doesn't mean SHIT if you can't manage things correctly.

ATA *MISSED* one hell of an opportunity to step in and sweep up some prime TWA 717's back in the spring of 2001 when AA clearly didn't want them. But, what do I know? ;p

I wonder if AirTran or any other airline for that matter, is talking with the airport authority about gate space in the new terminal? How would that process work anyway? How early do airlines and the airport start talking regarding space in the new terminal?

Several years ago, it went something like this

AIRPORT: "we'd like to build anew"

AIRLINES: "how much is this gonna cost us?"

I can't wait for the terminal to be open in two years. Hopefully they won't have any problems such as DEN and the very LONG delay in opening. Wasn't IND originally slated to open on 7/7/07??

I believe so. There were delays related to the funding mechanism, where the airlines balked at the increased PFC's. The airport pushed back the open by one year to give the airlines a break. But the main practical delay was that the tower had to be done and operating before they could do a whole lot of structural work, since you have to be able to see all of the runways and taxiways from the tower. There were delays in tower construction for various reasons, so this pushed the whole project back a little further.

Only thing I have heard is that the construction was pushed back one year at the request of the airlines and that the opening date was pushed to late 2008 and it has stuck at that since.
