According to a Star News report the new Fedex 777 will start flying to IND in 2008.
We'll start to see the Triple Sevens flying into Indianapolis International Airport sometime in 2008, according to Maury Lane, a spokesman for FedEx in Memphis.
"We'll be able to fly directly from our hub in Guangzhou, China, straight to Indianapolis or Memphis," he said. "Indianapolis will see the Triple Seven."
That's great news for the city, which already can land the 777, said Patzetta Trice, vice president of communications, marketing and air services for the airport. FedEx's decision to change planes "won't cause any changes in the plans that we have," Trice said.

While the 777 might not be as impressive as the 777 it will still be great to see a jet of that size flying to IND. And it is nice to know I will see it in my lifetime

Big picture, as the distribution and logistics industry grows up around here, we'll see more capacity among existing air cargo carriers, and eventually more air cargo carriers coming here. The real prize for this area, though, would be adding an additional large cargo operation here. Having an outfit like Atlas Air set up a hub here would be gigantic for this town. Even if Atlas, Kalitta, or Evergreen would start once-daily cargo service here, it would give a big shot in the arm to this area's logistics industry. Having FedEx expanding here will help drive the addition of service from elsewhere.

You're thinking the same as me. It's too bad DHL couldn't come in and use that facility. I think they chose to hub at Peoria or some silly place like that. Maybe as they grow, the USPS facility could be used to entice them to move their ops here.

US mail contract was given to FedEx, the post office/emery just couldn't compete.
