...standing in traffic on Washington Street by the Kmart, I'm watching NWA770 from LAX getting ready to land. Just as he's passing me to my left, my light turns green and off I drive. Just as I'm starting to roll, I notice that I can still see the A319 and thought how strange that was since the plane should be much lower by now. I look over and sure enough, the plane is putting its gears up and doing a go-around. And of course, as Murphys Law always does, today is one of the few days were I didn't have my scanner with me. Bummer.
Oh well, just wanted to share that with you and say 'Hi' to everyone here since today is my first post.

Hey Marcel. Welcome aboard. How common is a go-around at IND? I don't think in all my years of watching planes I've seen one do that.

Not too common.
The best I ever saw was a FedEx MD-11 on final to RWY 32 here in IND. At the time, our office looked out on to the midfield and all you saw was a colossal hunk of white paint passing by at around 200 feet over the runway and the gears and flaps coming back in.
Or the occassional return to field by the good old ATA L-1011. We would watch the plane take-off and within seconds the firetrucks would come rolling out and we saw the Tri-Star just fly a circle and land again.

Unfortunately, the only go-arounds I ever see are at LAF, due to improper spacing of student aircraft in the pattern. It's not near as much fun to watch a piper or a cessna do a go-round, lol.

Welcome to the boards! Ah, the good 'ole days of ATA L1011s. Too bad I wasn't around for much of the fanfare, lol.

I flew in the L1011 from IND to LAS back in 2000 I think. BTW talk about bad timing. I was coming home from the store last spring and what do I see flying close by? A NW 747-400. And where is my camera? At home. That was the 747 charter for the UCLA fans.

I remember seeing the L-1011s parked at the C concourse...really neat.
I also remember flying on an L-1011 from PHL to STL back in 1986 and 1987.

There was one night while is was still at FedEx waiting to offload an inbound A300, our flight was just over the threshold when he pulled up and sharply to the south. Once he finally landed and got to the gate, the captain told me that the 72 that landed right before him did not exit at the right point and continued on down the runway to another point forcing him to do a go around. He was really really annoyed he said... only becuase he really had to go pee!

And here I thought "go around" only happens in flight sim lol. Difference between reality and flight sim is that I bring the plane down anyway.
