Well, this is the General Discussion forum, so I guess it's OK that this really has nothing to do with IND.
Does anyone read the talk-back forums on the IndyStar? It seems you can't go one single day without someone bashing Carmel, Mayor Brainard, and all those "snobs up there." Why is that? Is it jealousy? I happen to live in Carmel and like it very much. I moved here from Fishers, which was fine for a while. But I got tired of the traffic, the lack of effective development planning, the traffic, the vinyl villages, and the traffic. It just seems to me that everyone around Indy who doesn't live in Carmel has some kind of Carmel Envy complex. I've only been in this area for 9 years, so maybe I missed something in the past that led to all this hating. What gives?

It is jealousy. Same reason you see so many Americans bashing Canadian health care. You never hear Canadians bashing it. It is always Americans. Just like Carmel. You never hear people from Carmel bashing Brainard. They've done a good job. Very progressive. I guess progressive is like a 4 letter word to most Hoosiers.

I'd say you are correct. I live in West Carmel near Zionsville and every time I tell someone that I live in Carmel, they're like "ooohh, you live in [sic]Car-mell..." with an eye-roll like I'm a yuppie or something. Gets on my nerves.

Hey. I live in West Carmel near Zionsville, too. I call it Zarmel. That's even worse, because you get the supposed fake new-money snobbery that people associate with Carmel and the genuinely rich snobbery that people know exists in Zionsville.
