The September 2006 numbers are out and AirTran handled 48,415 passengers for the month. This is an increase of 51.5% which is the biggest jump of any airline offering schedule service from IND. Strangely enough Air Canada had the 2nd biggest jump with an increase of 23.9% and handling 2,729 passengers for the month.

What are the market share percents now? I wonder if Airtran's increase makes any difference.

It's not hard to have a 24% increase from a base of 2,077 passengers the month before. They probably either had a fare sale and pulled YYZ-IND traffic away from other carriers. Then again, it's an average of about 22 more pax per day on an airline which has 200 seats to and from IND every day. Basically, their two daily roundtrips between IND and YYZ had an average load factor of 45% in Sept., up from 35% previously.

If I remember right their share was close to 10%. Of course with their increasing schedule starting this month I believe the share will grow even more. They seem to have become a hit pretty fast here.

As we've discussed before, they've been spending a lot on advertising. Lots of print and billboard ads, the campaign with Peyton Manning, etc. Must be paying off for Airtran.

Must be paying off? I think it must be costing a fortune, well at first anyway.

Which race did they sponsor? Wasn't it the Indy 500? Or the NASCAR race?

They sponsered a race?! I didn't know that. It would make sense to advertise for the F1 race though because it draws more out-of-state people.

I just checked and they were linked in some kind of promotion with the Indy 500.
