This is up for approval Friday.
"i)Consider for approval the Second Amendment to Agreement and Lease of Premises with AirTran Airways for the addition of terminal space to its leased premises. The Amendment provides for an annual rental increase of $161,029.10 at 2006 rates. Board Paper 135-06"
This is what got approved in November of 2005.
"APPROVAL OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT AND LEASE OF PREMISES WITH AIRTRAN AIRWAYS: Upon a motion by Mr. Voorhies, seconded by Mr. Callahan and unanimously passed, approval was given to the First Amendment to Agreement and Lease of Premises with AirTran Airways. The Amendment provides for the addition of a Baggage Service Office, Gate C2, and associated areas for an annual revenue increase of $419,677.02."
Based on what they got before for $419k and what they are going to spend this time with $161k I'd guess that this is for additional ticket counter space which they desperately need.

AirTran certainly got more ticket counter space. They now take up half of that area in the middle. I think they were about 1/3rd before. That should give you an idea that they are going to increase their schedule. It is a lot of space for 16 to 19 flights a day.

Or spend the money to thwart the competition from expansion.
It doesn't matter if you offer 1 flight a day, the more space the more you can provide in customer service. And that's what keeps people coming back.

This is exactly why FL needs a hub in this region of the country.

While I wouldn't put it past them to take counter space as a competitive move, it's hard to imaging an airilne today spending $1 more than they have to in support of their operations. So it's probably a better bet that they're going to expand again.

Now I know what they got. AirTran now has gate C1. I don't know if they are going to continue using gate C10 or not. But from what I can find today may very well be the first day using C1.

How many flights do they have now out of IND? How many could they potentially have with 4 gates-if they are exclusively FL gates.

C2 and C4 are leased to and used exclusively by AirTran. Those gates could support 10 flights a day each. So that is 20 right there. Gate C1 is used by AirTran and Midwest Connect. That gate is good for 10 flights a day but Midwest Connect has 3 a day so it would be good for an additional 7 a day for AirTran. I believe C10 is still a common use gate unless AirTran picked up the lease on it. I will assume they haven't. They do use C10 and I believe they are the only one. That could be good for an additional 10 per day. So right now I'd say the max is 37 flights a day. However AirTran has about 15 to 16 a day at this point I believe. The capacity they have obtained leads me to believe summer of 2007 will be a busy one for them.

AirTran is putting SRQ and FLL back on seasonal which makes sense. Though you'd think with the summer being the busy cruise season that FLL would be a summer destination and not a winter one. With all the space FL has picked up I wonder what they are going to do to use the space during the summer months? What are the summer hot spots? SEA maybe? Winter always stuck me as a "south" thing. Where do people go in the summer?

Yeah I think WN could pull it off. It would be nice to see NW or FL try it though.

yeah, nw doesnt usually take the leap of faith, they just follow up what the other carriers do. But it would still be nice to see them or FL do SAN before WN does.
