Ok..i know the new terminal just opened but one thing i was wondering is this: IF, and i mean if, IND was to expand their number of gates...would it come by way of extending the concourses down? Or would there be some kind of "remote concourse?" I thought i remember seeing a plan that had a remote concourse just east of the current (new) terminal in an "x" shape. Was i just imagining or was it real?

I think it would come in the form of the current concourses being extended. I believe the airport was built with future expansion provisions in mind. I think both concourses can each be expanded by approx 20 or so gates.

It is obviously the easier thing to do since they would just have to close off the ends of each concourse and go outward.
I would love to see the inside of the old terminal now..."ghostly." ALmost reminds me of that movie "Langoliers." *lol*

I wonder if they'll try to implode it. Moreover, I wonder what will become of that coveted piece of property.
Let the speculating begin!

I know this one exactly since I arrived at IND 2 hours ago. We landed on 23L. From the time we turned off the runway until we stopped at gate A14 was 4 minutes. It would have been 3 minutes but we stopped short of the gate and waited for a minute before pulling forward for some reason.

I rememeber how long it took taxiing from the terminal down to 5L or 5R. Not to mention landing on 23L/R and back taxiing up to the terminal. Depending on traffic and the wind directions, ATC would sometimes have you hold short of 14/32 to yield to traffic arriving and departing on that runway. The location of the new terminal makes things so much easier. Who knows, maybe the airlines will lower fares to/from IND since they'll burn less fuel! Nah, not gonna happen!

So far no expansion for IND. In fact we are losing PIT, AUS, SAT and now it seems WN is cutting TPA from 2x to 1x daily in May. We need some good news.

Welcome to downsizing and the airlines are reducing capacity another 10 percent
