My guess would be the top of the parking garage. It is going to be in between the runways. I can't think of a better place. I wish they'd do what they did in DUS and put those coin operated binoculars up. Well there they have two observation decks. But it would be nice to have them up on the garage.

Like I said, give it time till the new terminal opens. Then we get approved to do it with no hassles. Plus we get a location. Signups will be in late Oct. for the Spotting group to get permission to spot at the airport.

Cheers

Hey guys,

I'm excited to hear your interested. Sign up availability should be here within the next week. Make sure you watch the Spotters forum, and read the spotter proposal. I hope to have a sign up page created for the group.

Just a curious and very random thought, but when the new terminal opens what will become of the old? I've heard that fedex might buy the old building, but I'm not to sure what good it would do them

Well I suppose if FedEx were to do some modifications to the old terminal they could easliy use it to load their planes more efficiently and process more freight in the long run. If anyone has the scoop on this poop lets us know!!!

From what I've heard it would be cost more to modify the terminal into something usable for for FedEx than it would be to just tear it down and start from scratch. Plus you have to think about the time it would take to get freight from back and forth from the "old terminal" to the regular sort facility. The most that they would use it for would be ramp space, not for regular sort. I don't see how you could even convert it into something usable for FedEx. IF you've ever seen the inside of the current sort you would understand mostly the sort slides. The most I think it could be converted to would be for Heavy Weights which goes hand in hand with the trucks. But who knows. Last I heard though, FedEx had no desire to even look at the bldg for use.

I've never heard a serious report that the airport terminal would be used for FedEx. I think it's just message board speculation. The only re-use I've ever heard mentioned from a credible source was as a terminal for private aviation, but with there being a separate terminal built now (who was it that's going to build it? I don't recall), that's certainly out the window.

With the developmnet interest that's already been seen near the airport (the pharmacy place, Purdue Research park, etc), the land at the intersection of Sam Jones Expressway and High School Road, within such close proximity to the airport, has got to be worth a bunch. So I think the notion that the old terminal will be demolished is spot on. The terminal isn't very useful except as another terminal, which isn't at all necessary now. The best thing to do is to tear it down and develop the land.

I feel 99% certain the terminal will be torn down. What they will use the space for is anyones guess.
