The Indianapolis area is host to three of the the top five biggest sporting events in the nation. The Indy 500, Brickyard 400 and US Grand Prix make up 3 of the 5. Only the Daytona 500 and Super Bowl are in the top 5 and not hosted in Indianapolis. With a brand new start of the art stadium coming to town is can be expected that in some years Indianapolis will host 4 of the top 5.
Indianapolis also features the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers on the pro circuit. The city also plays host to the minor league baseball team the Indianapolis Indians. The ATP tour also comes to town every year at the RCA tennis center.
On the amateur side you have a number of major universities within a 90 minute drive from downtown. This gives you the chance to see famous IU and Purdue basketball in action as well as their football programs. Indianapolis will also play host to a NCAA basketball final four every other year. This will feature men's and women's tournaments every 4 years (staggered for a event every 2 years).
There is definately no lack of sports in Indianapolis.

I fully don't expect the Formula None race to be back next year... You can blame that mainly on Michelin and Bernie Ecclestoner.
