In KC again this week. I took WN out this time, although I'll be going back tomorrow on my usual NW. Have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the WN flight. I checked in early online and still got a B pass, but I got a decent seat on the aisle just behind the engine. The seat was very comfortable - nice leather and well-padded. Boarding was quick, flight was quiet and fast, no complaints. I still like having a seat assignment, though.

Next time you're in KC, go to North Kansas City to Chappell's restaurant. This place has the most amazing collection of sports memorabilia you'll ever see. Decent menu, really good prices, but it's the sports stuff on every surface that you'll find interesting. I'm told the owner has the largest collection of Negro League items in the world. Many are on display, but he's loaned much of it to the NL museum near here.

You should, of course, also make a pilgrimage to Arthur Bryant's. Not the branch location in the Ameristar casino or someplace like that. Go to the original one, down in the 'hood. If you like KC barbeque, nothing beats the original location. Mmmm.

I'd also recommend staying at the Harrah's hotel as a nice alternative to the high price of staying downtown. It's just a really short drive north from downtown KC across the river and a couple miles east of the interstate. The rooms are like 4-star nice, but the price is around $100. And if you get bored just sitting in your hotel room in the evening, you have the casino and a couple of bars to choose from.
