Through the end of August 2007 the passenger numbers are looking very good for IND. 5,628,814 passengers have been handled so far. That puts the airport on pace to handle just over 8.4 million passengers this year which would be the 2nd busiest year ever. This would only be topped by 2005 I believe which was when ATA was building a hub and NW was building the focus city.

The #1 carrier is again Northwest Airlines with a 23.9% market share. They are on pace to handle just over two million passengers this year alone. US Airways is #2 with a 14% market share. Southwest and AirTran Airways are tied for #3 with a 12.1% share. Southwest technically has the edge having handled 6,000 more passengers this year.

Through the end of August IND has handled approximately 180,000 more passengers than this same point in 2006. Without major changes we should be working at a pace to hit 8.75 million passengers served in a 12 month period by the time the new terminal opens in November 2008.

With the September numbers in the projection for the total passengers served would be around 8.34 million people. That is down a bit from the projection after the August stats came out. September is however a slow month and will tend to bring the numbers down a bit. We are headed into the busy holiday travel season and that number will likely rebound. Even without a rebound this will be the 2nd busiest year ever for IND.
