In a move I certainly didn't expect Frontier Airlines has applied for full year service from IND to CUN starting 1st quarter 2006. The application is for 3 weekly flights during peak season and fewer weekly flights during non peak season. The application also states they may increase the frequencies during peak season. The route will be service with an A319.

Here is the DOT application.

Good news for Frontier is that ATA has already advised them that they will not object to the IND-CUN application. ATA has given up apparently.

Waiting patiently (not really lol) for the DOT to post their results on this application. The answer data was listed as being 10 days ago.

In an amended application for this route Frontier asks for route approval by November 1st.

On Thursday (August 16, 2007) Frontier applied for renewal of the IND-CUN service. I can't believe it will be 2 years in November since this route got approved. Frontier has invoked the automatic extension provision.

Frontier is reducing this service to weekend only on the winter schedule and seasonally removed in the summer and early fall. This happened to BNA as well as STL.

Why do my favorite airlines end up going defunct??

I think they got a bit too ambitions with this year round service.
