According to an Indianapolis Star report Marriott has been chosen as the new Convention Center Hotel. This will be built by the Convention Center and Lucas Oil stadium. It will be an 800 to 1000 room hotel and 25 stories high. Three other Marriott brand hotels will also be built on the site.

I have to say I'm kind of surprised. I thought for sure the Intercontinental would be chosen. I figured the city would go for the flashy, 44-story concept. They've also been talking about redeveloping Pan Am Plaza for years now. And the Intercontinental plan was from a group run by Democratic types, whilst the Marriott was the Republican-types. In the end, it appears to have been mainly the speed with which the deal could get done - the city didn't want to end up with another Market Square Partners fiasco.

Can I get a peanut crumb with that thimble of Coke?

It may be that eventually the other hotel gets constructed as well. The city could use the space.

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing the updated design.
