Hey all,

I just found this site. Have lived in Indy my whole life (near IND) and just finished with a Bachelor's in Aviation Management from Purdue.

I looked around on the forums to see if anything about this had been posted, but didn't see anything. I run from my home a streaming audio feed for IND tower and approach/departure. I also run one for Indy Center freqs in this area. Both use Radio Shack Pro-94 scanners and I use an external antenna to better sound quality.

Currently, only IND is up. ZID will be up and down. I'm working on the sound quality for both and ZID is pretty bad right now, so it's down till I fix it.

The feeds are set up on www.liveatc.net and can be reached through these links...

ZID is currently up but you won't hear audio on it for now.

Enjoy, and feel free to spread the word.

Matt

Greetings and welcome aboard. Thanks for posting the links. BTW what does ZID stand for?

All of the air route traffic control centers have 3 letter identifiers, much like airports. For example, Anchorage is ZAN, Chicago is ZAU (it's in Aurora, IL), Oakland is ZOA, and Indianapolis is ZID.

Much of my coursework at Purdue was in air traffic control, and I've become fairly familiar with ATC operations for the region. If anyone ever has any ATC related questions (especially related to IND and this area), I'll do my best to answer them.

ATAIndy - did you work for ATA at IND? I worked ramp for them one summer during my time at Purdue.

Hey are you anywhere in a position where you can get pics of the midfield terminal construction project?

BTW what software do you use to stream the audio? I was looking to set up NOAA weather radio online for the area.

Unfortunatly, I don't currently work at IND. I'm either going to be working for Chautauqua at their headquarters on the northwest side or for ASIG at PHL. I may do ATC eventually....I'm on the list to be hired at some point but with the recently contract problems I may decide against.

I hope to tour the new tower sometime soon, though I don't believe they're giving tours for a few months. When I do I may be able to get some pics, though sometimes when I go they don't let me take my camera up in the cab (and sometimes they do...depends on a few things).

As for software, I believe that Dave, who runs liveatc.net, developed the software used to stream all of the feeds. It's called Stream Transcoder. He may be able to help you with finding some software you can use though, or may let you use a copy of that. Here's a link that will get you in contact with him. I talk to him on a fairly regular basis, so I'll shoot him an email telling him you may contact him.

His site says it is an open source application. BTW you said here is the link. What link? Very Happy I hope he doesn't mind giving advice since my project will in no way compete with his.

Sorry about that.

He's fairly busy, so it may take some time for him to get back with you, but I think he'd be willing to help.

Just wanted to let you all know that the IND feed will be discontinued late this week as I'm moving to PHL. I'll start a new feed or two when I get out there which you can find on liveatc.net. If anyone has a scanner and an always on internet connection within a few miles of the field and would be willing to set up a new feed, please send me a message through this board. I'll try to remember to check fairly often.

I was wondering if anyone was interested in splitting the cost of a cable connection for feeding ATC feeds? I was looking to have Brighthouse run a line to my garage and having a computer out there stream the feeds for IND tower and approach. They charge about $30 a month for a 256k/256k cable connection. That gives enough speed to stream the two feeds. If anyone is interested let me know.
