The MKE market is actually badly over served. The yields are total garbage there. I have no doubt that they will in the next year or two lose either YX or FL. MKE is just too small of a market. I know people think they will pull from Chicago but it just isn't going to work out. They may get a few people but it won't be enough to make a difference. MKE didn't all the sudden move closer to Chicago because AirTran operates there. The fare bloodbath that exists in MKE now may pull a few extra people but it will also result in one airline eventually pulling out. That of course will drive prices back up and the traffic numbers will come crashing down.

That and MKE is overserved, but that comes from all the connecting traffic that MKE has now from FL and Midwest. IND had VERY little connecting traffic. I would like to know just how small that number is.

There where a couple of surprises I found on this list.

First: Wow! MKE is kicking ass. It's too bad FL didn't pick IND to build out of or we could be experiencing some of the wonderful traffic growth right now. The question remains is can MKE sustain this service though? I mean if they have enough connecting traffic and they can pull up some passengers from Chicago then their service will probably remain unchanged.

Second: How are AUS, BNA, and Raleigh so far above us? I guess I can understand BNA because of WN's presence there, but AUS and Raleigh especially are surprising.

What are your thoughts?

Does anyone know the number of flights a day between IND-ORD? I know only American Eagle and United Express cover the service, but its a large connection point for IND for those two airlines.

Comments, Questions or Suggestions :: More Comments On The Terminal

In the past I posted a review of the midfield terminal. I was really critical of some areas. The glare in the civic plaza was a problem. The clutter in the civic plaza was a problem. These two areas are either being worked on or have been taken care of.

I also had concerns with signage as you exit the concourses. I believe that has been improved as well. I arrived at IND today and noticed very large and clearly marked signs showing where to go to baggage claim and where to go to the B concourse from the A concourse.

I was concerned about the amount of ground transportation traffic at the terminal lower level. It seems that most of the ground transportation traffic now uses the road by the rental car station. I personally think premium long term parking shuttle service should use the same area but for now the arrangement is doable.

The exit from long term parking needs to be corrected. You basically come out of long term parking and are forced immediately in to traffic. There was an opportunity to construct a proper merge lane but for whatever reason that wasn't done. I strongly encourage the IAA to fix this problem and avoid certain accidents in the future.

Economy parking buses ran frequently. Props to them for providing a better level of service. The wait was extremely short. Yes the parking is a bit more expensive now but the buses came fast and often and the heater in the remote parking shelter worked great.

Airport Police responded to an incident in the long term parking area and the officer was very polite and professional.

On my way out of IND a week ago I had a chance to revisit security. I think the new IND security center and the TSA agents working here continue to remain top notch. We really do have the best security center in the nation.

I have issues with the service Delta provided but that is a rant for a different discussion.

I was such a fan of IND being a Northwest focus city! I hope that Delta makes a large presence at IND now. But the problem is that it is so close to CVG. Southwest is still a great airline.

Oh yeah! Sorry I didn't specify! This flight was Friday March 13, 2009 on Mesaba. Delta colors down to RSW and good old NWA colors on the CRJ-900 on the way back.
